"Heartland Jubilee 2010"
Bad News has hit the Heartland Jubilee
We have lost a member of our staff. Mike Jacobs has passed away. I know most have heard the sad tale of Mike's
passing so we will not go into those details I will simply say that Mike was not only a long time Staff Member but a
friend for my entire calling career. Mike has been a force in the growth of The Heartland Jubilee.
I know that no one can replace Mike but we have to try. To fill the gap in our program we have called upon a long,
tall, drink of water from Arizona named Bill Haynes. We are pleased that Bill has agreed to come East of the Mississippi to share his talent, humor, and calling skills with us.
Barbara and I and the rest of the Staff will miss Mike and we will pray for him and his family but as we all know we must go on. At the Heartland Jubilee we hope that you will continue to enjoy the weekend as you have in the past.
"Heartland Jubilee 2009"
We welcome you to the web site for one of the best attended, and still growing, Advanced
and Challenge weekends in America.
WOW!! Hello Dancers,
We just attended the biggest Heartland Jubilee Ever!!! We sold out the C3 hall and the C2 hall for the 1st time ever. Biggest C3A and Advanced halls and stayed the same in the C1 hall.
THANK YOU DANCERS!!!!! What a thrill to have such a great crowd.
Free Dance Packages were awarded to:
Tom and Jackie Fitzgerald of Livingston, TX
and
Joanne Hayden of Knoxville, TN
Costume awards of a free dance package for each category went to:
Caveman with the bare buns!! (Anyone Get a Picture???)
Dale Butler, Copper Mountain, CO.
and
Dorothy and To do.
Lynn Webster, Prior Lake, MN.
It was hard for the callers to choose the winners as there were a lot of great costumes and discussions about them went on late into the night.
For 2010 Barbara has decided we should have costumes worn to the evening dance sessions, as many of the contestants did this year.
Of course the callers dressed also. Darryl came as a Harley Hogger (big surprise),
Mike was dressed as a Blind Umpire and wore dark glasses
as proof of there inability to make decisions in this years World Series.
Todd forgot his costume so we put a diaper on him.
Wilson was the Grim Reaper.
Sparks wore Devil Horns and a Tail.
Ross, dressed by Kim and Barbara, sported The Clark Kent changing into Superman Look.
All in all the callers cooperated nicely.
A Special Thanks to those who work the computer numbers in the halls.
Advanced: Frank and Jean Parmir
C1: Stuart and Arlene Magy
C2: Gene and Allison Zajicek
C3A: Dirk and Karen Iwema
C3: Jim and Sue Robertson and Molly Dominguez
We would like to thank you for your past support of the “Heartland Jubilee”. We try hard to make this the best convention/weekend dance available to you the Dancers. We hope you have enjoyed coming.
Support the weekend:
To continue this great dance we need the support of the Advanced and Challenge Community. There are several ways that you can be an active supporter of the “Heartland Jubilee” dance.
The first and most important is to come yourself. We and the attending dancers will miss you if you are unable to attend.
Next you can take Flyers and display them at the appropriate level dances and encourage your dancing friends to attend. Of course, if you need flyers, because yours were all picked up, or you don't have any, we will be glad to supply you with the number needed.
One of the most important ways to support is to stay at the host hotel. Our charges, for the dancing space and room rates, are based on the number of rooms that are used each night. The fees are quickly and greatly increase if the number of room nights used by our dancers falls below the contracted levels. Kings Island Inn and Conference Center has been a popular place to hold our dance and many of the dancers have stated how convenient and comfortable it is. I have this month spoken to the new manager and he has told me that they have done quite a few upgrades to the rooms and facilities. We addressed the cooling of the halls, the restaurant and several other minor suggestions that have been put forth by you the dancers.
So if you are thinking about other arrangements please remember the overall picture and stay with us in the headquarters hotel.
Barbara, Kim, Linda and Debbie have got the registration area pretty well handled and deserve our “Thank You” for their hard work. We do appreciate the folks that volunteer to help, at the weekend, especially with the ˝ and ˝ pot selling, a place we would like some additional assistance.
If you are computer literate we always appreciate the folks that agree to run the “Number Computers” in the hall and would appreciate hearing from you if you would like to take on that task full or part time. It can be a little much for one person for the whole weekend to run the numbers so some relief would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone has ideas for ways to torture the callers Barbara would love to hear from you. If you would like to perform a song or do a skit or be part of the After Party on Friday night we would also like to know what you would perform for the audience.
These are some of the things that a lot of you already do, but we want to give everyone thanks for our past successful dances and look forward to bringing you more happy fun weekends.
Thanks for your support through the years and we will see you in October.
Sparky,
The Dance Package Winners for 2009 are:
James and Judy Flattery
Tipp City, OH
and
Ron and Pat Hazlip
Ballwin (St Louis) MO
With our walk-in's we again grew this year. It was amazing because in the last week we had 15 couples that had to call and roll over to next year because of health problems, accidents, and family emergencies. We hope and pray that all of these situations turn out ok, that everyone heals properly, or that God works in the way that you would understand. Hope you all make next year and bring a friend.
We have several dancers that would like to come but need a partner. It has been our policy that no one come with out a partner but some times things happen at the dance that cause us to have a single dancer. In these cases we have worked with that person and the help of the dancers to allow these people to continue to enjoy the weekend with a partner disabled or sick. I want to thank the dancers for their cooperation in these circumstances. We are going to start a list this year of single dancers that would like to come but do not have a regular dance partner. If you or one of your friends need a partner please notify Sparky and he will place your name and preferred level of dance on a list and attempt to match people so they can attend as a couple. Be sure to let us know if you are able to dance both the Belle and/or Beau part.
The registration for 2009 is one of the best that we have ever been blessed. With 78 Percent of the dancers registering for the 2009 Anniversary Dance. We are very happy that all these dancers express their pleasure with the dance to sign up soon and be sure of a spot. We had 2 halls that reached their max this year and have warned that we will have to cease taking registrations when we reach room capacity plus 3 couples. Halls will be color coded so that the computer operators will know which couples are registered for that room.
Again we want to thank those who contributed to the dance success by running computers providing computer and caller equipment. It seems that this year we had no trouble with the numbers in each hall or it was handled at the time of incident. I guess more of us have learned how the system is helpful to us all.
With a rainy start the weekend turned out very nice with sunshine on Friday, Saturday and Sunday For a great weekend and nice ride home.
We would also like to thank Darryl's Bride Decca and Dave Wilson's Life Partner Alex for participating in the skits to entertain the dancers at our Friday Night "After party with the Callers" and the "Callers Olympics". The Girls have already received several skits from the dancers and the Callers are planning a Special Musical Program. So come early and don't miss the show.
