"Heartland Jubilee 2010"

Bad News has hit the Heartland Jubilee

We have lost a member of our staff. Mike Jacobs has passed away. I know most have heard the sad tale of Mike's passing so we will not go into those details I will simply say that Mike was not only a long time Staff Member but a friend for my entire calling career. Mike has been a force in the growth of The Heartland Jubilee.

I know that no one can replace Mike but we have to try. To fill the gap in our program we have called upon a long, tall, drink of water from Arizona named Bill Haynes. We are pleased that Bill has agreed to come East of the Mississippi to share his talent, humor, and calling skills with us.

Barbara and I and the rest of the Staff will miss Mike and we will pray for him and his family but as we all know we must go on. At the Heartland Jubilee we hope that you will continue to enjoy the weekend as you have in the past.

"Heartland Jubilee 2009"

We welcome you to the web site for one of the best attended, and still growing, Advanced and Challenge weekends in America.

WOW!! Hello Dancers,

We just attended the biggest Heartland Jubilee Ever!!! We sold out the C3 hall and the C2 hall for the 1st time ever. Biggest C3A and Advanced halls and stayed the same in the C1 hall.

THANK YOU DANCERS!!!!! What a thrill to have such a great crowd.

Free Dance Packages were awarded to:

Tom and Jackie Fitzgerald of Livingston, TX

and

Joanne Hayden of Knoxville, TN

Costume awards of a free dance package for each category went to:

Caveman with the bare buns!! (Anyone Get a Picture???)

Dale Butler, Copper Mountain, CO.

and

Dorothy and To do.

Lynn Webster, Prior Lake, MN.

It was hard for the callers to choose the winners as there were a lot of great costumes and discussions about them went on late into the night.

For 2010 Barbara has decided we should have costumes worn to the evening dance sessions, as many of the contestants did this year.

Of course the callers dressed also. Darryl came as a Harley Hogger (big surprise),

Mike was dressed as a Blind Umpire and wore dark glasses as proof of there inability to make decisions in this years World Series.

Todd forgot his costume so we put a diaper on him.

Wilson was the Grim Reaper.

Sparks wore Devil Horns and a Tail.

Ross, dressed by Kim and Barbara, sported The Clark Kent changing into Superman Look.

All in all the callers cooperated nicely.

A Special Thanks to those who work the computer numbers in the halls.

Advanced: Frank and Jean Parmir

C1: Stuart and Arlene Magy

C2: Gene and Allison Zajicek

C3A: Dirk and Karen Iwema

C3: Jim and Sue Robertson and Molly Dominguez

We would like to thank you for your past support of the “Heartland Jubilee”. We try hard to make this the best convention/weekend dance available to you the Dancers. We hope you have enjoyed coming.

Support the weekend:

To continue this great dance we need the support of the Advanced and Challenge Community. There are several ways that you can be an active supporter of the “Heartland Jubilee” dance.

The first and most important is to come yourself. We and the attending dancers will miss you if you are unable to attend.

Next you can take Flyers and display them at the appropriate level dances and encourage your dancing friends to attend. Of course, if you need flyers, because yours were all picked up, or you don't have any, we will be glad to supply you with the number needed.

One of the most important ways to support is to stay at the host hotel. Our charges, for the dancing space and room rates, are based on the number of rooms that are used each night. The fees are quickly and greatly increase if the number of room nights used by our dancers falls below the contracted levels. Kings Island Inn and Conference Center has been a popular place to hold our dance and many of the dancers have stated how convenient and comfortable it is. I have this month spoken to the new manager and he has told me that they have done quite a few upgrades to the rooms and facilities. We addressed the cooling of the halls, the restaurant and several other minor suggestions that have been put forth by you the dancers.

So if you are thinking about other arrangements please remember the overall picture and stay with us in the headquarters hotel.

Barbara, Kim, Linda and Debbie have got the registration area pretty well handled and deserve our “Thank You” for their hard work. We do appreciate the folks that volunteer to help, at the weekend, especially with the ˝ and ˝ pot selling, a place we would like some additional assistance.

If you are computer literate we always appreciate the folks that agree to run the “Number Computers” in the hall and would appreciate hearing from you if you would like to take on that task full or part time. It can be a little much for one person for the whole weekend to run the numbers so some relief would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone has ideas for ways to torture the callers Barbara would love to hear from you. If you would like to perform a song or do a skit or be part of the After Party on Friday night we would also like to know what you would perform for the audience.

These are some of the things that a lot of you already do, but we want to give everyone thanks for our past successful dances and look forward to bringing you more happy fun weekends.

Thanks for your support through the years and we will see you in October.

Sparky,

The Dance Package Winners for 2009 are:

James and Judy Flattery
Tipp City, OH

and

Ron and Pat Hazlip
Ballwin (St Louis) MO

With our walk-in's we again grew this year. It was amazing because in the last week we had 15 couples that had to call and roll over to next year because of health problems, accidents, and family emergencies. We hope and pray that all of these situations turn out ok, that everyone heals properly, or that God works in the way that you would understand. Hope you all make next year and bring a friend.

We have several dancers that would like to come but need a partner. It has been our policy that no one come with out a partner but some times things happen at the dance that cause us to have a single dancer. In these cases we have worked with that person and the help of the dancers to allow these people to continue to enjoy the weekend with a partner disabled or sick. I want to thank the dancers for their cooperation in these circumstances. We are going to start a list this year of single dancers that would like to come but do not have a regular dance partner. If you or one of your friends need a partner please notify Sparky and he will place your name and preferred level of dance on a list and attempt to match people so they can attend as a couple. Be sure to let us know if you are able to dance both the Belle and/or Beau part.

The registration for 2009 is one of the best that we have ever been blessed. With 78 Percent of the dancers registering for the 2009 Anniversary Dance. We are very happy that all these dancers express their pleasure with the dance to sign up soon and be sure of a spot. We had 2 halls that reached their max this year and have warned that we will have to cease taking registrations when we reach room capacity plus 3 couples. Halls will be color coded so that the computer operators will know which couples are registered for that room.

Again we want to thank those who contributed to the dance success by running computers providing computer and caller equipment. It seems that this year we had no trouble with the numbers in each hall or it was handled at the time of incident. I guess more of us have learned how the system is helpful to us all.

With a rainy start the weekend turned out very nice with sunshine on Friday, Saturday and Sunday For a great weekend and nice ride home.

We would also like to thank Darryl's Bride Decca and Dave Wilson's Life Partner Alex for participating in the skits to entertain the dancers at our Friday Night "After party with the Callers" and the "Callers Olympics". The Girls have already received several skits from the dancers and the Callers are planning a Special Musical Program. So come early and don't miss the show.

"Heartland Jubilee 2008"

Winners of the free Dance Packages for 2008

Again we awarded two FREE Dance Packages at the Saturday Night end of the weekend session.
Your Winners for 2008 are:

Sherman and Edith Tinnes
Aiken, SC

And

Bill and Pat Bode
Kirkland, OH

Congratulations to both couples!!!

We have outstanding pre-registrations for 2008 assuring us of another successful Heartland Jubilee. All halls have 70% pre-registration so make sure you get your registration in early. In 2008 we had several walk-ins and single day dancers. If the hall maximums are reached we will have to cut off the walk-ins at the door and the single day dancers to avoid over crowding the halls. To avoid disappointment please get your registration in early for the full program.

In the 2007 dance we were able to arrange extra room for the Advanced Level and were rewarded with many additional new dance couples in the hall.

The Challenge Level rooms were within one square of their capacity and those registrations are great for 2008.

Using computers for square mixing and having experienced dancers as operators, we again had smooth sailing on the use of numbers to mix the dancers in the halls. Thanks to Vic and Debbie Ceder for compiling and updating Ceder's Couples Rotation System for dancers. Great improvements Vic and Debbie, thanks for the hard work. If you need a program for your local group use you can get the mixing program from http://www.ceder.net/sqrot.php4.

The Caller's Olympics provided another chance for the callers to demonstrate their grace, agility, and quick thinking skills, providing the dancers with hope knowing they were not the only ones who at times felt silly or made mistakes. Barbara, Kim and Debbie work hard trying to devise new tests of skill, quick reaction and imagination for the Callers to entertain the dancers. Barbara and her staff are more than happy to have the dancers make suggestions that could be used to further prove the Callers are "very human". For all their dignity and stage presence the Callers Olympics demonstrates that our Callers are just big boys at heart.

It is always a pleasure to see the dancers greeting each other as well know friends and companions. Where else can you go and meet so many nice people with a common interest. We get many comments from the dancers about the friendly atmosphere of the "Heartland Jubilee", how accessible, friendly, and helpful the staff and workers are, and how much enjoyment and relaxation they feel during the weekend.

If you would like to be a supporter and ensure that we have a full house and great dancing in the future please call us with requests for flyers for you to display at the dances you attend. If you want to do more lets us know so we can accommodate you as much as possible.

Happy dancing until "Heartland Jubilee 2008"

Sparky and "B"

Past Years Information:

"Heartland Jubilee 2007"

The pre-registration for the 2007 dance was our best ever. Over 75% of the dancers attending 2006 have re-registered for next year and we have had 4 sign up on the internet since we returned. Wow! That's great thank you all.

In 2007 we will be realigning the halls and putting limits on the number of registrations for each level. This means that if you are moving up or dropping back a level you need to notify us to claim your spot in the hall of choice.

We will have limits in each hall for 2007 of:
Advanced: 23 squares
C1: 10 squares
C2: 8 Squares
C3A: 8 Squares
C3: 7 Squares

Those thinking of "Walking In" should call (502) 727-8281 (Barbara's cell) or (502) 727-3056 (Sparky's cell) to be sure that we do not have a hall "sold out". We will not be able to allow dancers to walk in for a session or the dance if the hall has reached it's capacity.

"Please" "Please" pre-register. The cost is minimal, if are unable to attend you may roll over your deposit up to the time of the dance or receive a refund before the cutoff date of 9/25/2007.

"Heartland Jubilee 2006"

Again in 2006 we had more dancers than the year before. Unfortunately we had to turn some dancers away because the halls were full. The advanced hall alone turned away 7 couples

The staff was pleased with the quality and dancing ability of the dancers who attended this year and all were impressed on how the dancers were able accept and complete more unusual choreography than in the past. Each caller stated how nice it was to call for this group.

As always the atmosphere was one of fun, challenge, and camaraderie.

Free Dance Packages awarded to:

Stuart and Arlene Magy, Waterford, Michigan

and

Ralph and Mary Corley, Cincinnati, Ohio

These dancers signed up for the early bird discount and will receive a free dance package to "Heartland Jubilee 2007" to include the return of their $20.00 deposit.

Congratulations and we will see you next year.

"Heartland Jubilee 2005"

The "Bug of 05"

The 2005 version of "the Heartland Jubilee" was visited by an UNWELCOME "GUEST". Her name was Norovirus. You can read a pdf about her by clicking her name.

Many who attended met this unpleasant lady. For those of you that were among her acquaintance we apologize for her rudeness and lack of propriety. All we can be thankful for is that she was not a serious or permanent distraction.

The Warren County Health Department, the local authority, was notified of the "Bug" and has produced and mailed to all who attended a survey to see if there is a common thread that would indicate the origin of the "Bug".

I have been contacted by the Hotel Manager and told that they are cooperating with the Health Department and he has apologized to me for any problems that we might have suffered.

The local school districts are also going through a bout of the flu and it has the same symptoms that were reported by our dancers. It may be that it cannot be narrowed to anything more that our close proximity to each other while the "Bug" was virulent.

We are grateful to you that have taken the time to reply to the survey. If they can assess a problem and it is something we can change you can rest assured that we will do our best to correct it for future events.

Again B and I are sorry for those of you that were stricken and we both can surly appreciate your feelings as both she and I also met the same result as a lot of you.

Thanks

"Sparky"

Now for the "2006" Information

We have just completed our 16th year and our success can be testified to by the fact that over 65 % of those attending signed for 2006 before leaving the Weekend. With the number of Dancers missing in action due to the "Bug" we feel this is great.

Space in the halls goes fast and in 2006 we are limiting the Advanced Hall to 15 Squares and 3 Couples. If you want to attend please get your reservation in early for the full program so your hall doesn't fill up and cause you to be placed on the standby list.

Our Staff for next year will remain the same. We. the Staff, sure had a good time and are proud to add Todd as a permanent member of the Staff.
